Malocclusion can be an obstacle to children's health. Interceptive orthodontics is one of an orthodontics
treatment in children. It’s necessary that the role of parents has an important influence in maintaining children's dental health,
especially mothers have an important role in developing children's behavior towards dental and oral health. Purpose: To
find out a relationship between the need for interceptive orthodontic treatment and the education level of mothers in children
aged 8 - 10 years at SDS Amkur Sambas, West Kalimantan. Methods: This study is an analytic observational study with a
cross-sectional design. Parents' education data was obtained by distributing questionnaires and children's dental health data
was obtained by IKPO-I. Results: A total of 80 respondents who were examined using IKPO-I found that 15 mothers (18.75%)
had a high level of education, 34 mothers (42.5%) had a moderate level of education, and 31 mothers (38.75%) had a low
level of education. 21 children (27.5%) did not need treatment, 38 children (51.25%) needed interceptive orthodontic
treatment, and 21 children (21.25%) needed corrective orthodontic treatment. The results obtained in this study are the value
of p = 0.000 and the value of r = -0.400. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship
between the educational level of the mother and the need for orthodontic treatment on the Sig. = 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05).
